the lost world ♥ marguerite/roxton + ned.
"salvation" (1x06)

Malone: What the hell do you think you’re doing?
Marguerite: Calm down, I didn’t edit much. I just wanted to see how wrong you were getting it.
Roxton: And the verdict?
Marguerite: A little sensational.
Malone: You went through my things. Put it down Marguerite.
Marguerite: Just a second.
Roxton: Do as he says.
Marguerite: Ah at last... me. "The mysterious Miss Krux, dangerous - possibly deadly." You have no idea Malone, just how dangerous I can be. You are never to use my name in any of this. Understood?
Malone: Put it down.
Marguerite: Well perhaps I haven’t made myself clear.
Malone: You had no right. Don’t you ever touch my things again or I’ll-!
Roxton: No you won’t.
Marguerite: Well my my my. Who would have thought the angelic Mr. Malone had demons to hide?

Roxton: What would have happened if I hadn’t been there? What would you have done?
Malone: Nothing
Roxton: Like hell!
Malone: I wasn’t gonna hurt her.
Roxton: You weren’t exactly teaching her to tango.
Malone: I lost it, okay? Just let it go.
Roxton: Once - it can never happen again. Understand, Malone?
Malone: She pushed me.
Roxton: She pushes everybody.

Malone: Don’t tell me you trust her.
Roxton: I certainly trust her to act in her own interest. If she doesn’t watch our backs we can’t watch hers.
Malone: How long do you think that will last? What happens when it’s in her best interest to sell us down the river?
Roxton: She won’t.

Malone: How the hell do you know that?
Roxton: Sometimes you roll the dice on people. That’s what we did, all of us, when we signed on this journey. You take what you get; there are too many ways to die out here. And the one thing we can’t do is kill each other; we’re all we have.

Roxton: Ease up on Malone.
Marguerite: I’m not in the mood.
Roxton: I mean it Marguerite.
Marguerite: Don’t make me your personal crusade. I’m not sure you’re up to the challenge.

Roxton: What is wrong with you?
Marguerite: Oh- apart from being stranded a thousand miles from a decent maid?
Roxton: We’re all stranded.
Marguerite: That’s us- one big happy family.
Roxton: You know ever since we left the tomb...
Marguerite: Let’s see... Summerlee can be the doting grandfather, Challenger’s.. no – I think you’re the daddy, then there’s little baby Veronica and me? I’m the wicked stepsister.

Roxton: I don’t really give a damn why you are who you are, but here- now- you’re going to behave.
Marguerite: Or what - you’re going to shoot me? That’s what the great white hunter does isn’t it? You’re going to kill me like you did your brother?
Marguerite: ... Roxton, I’m sorry.
Marguerite: Damn!

Malone: You have no idea how you were able to read a language thousands of years old. That’s what terrifies you.
Marguerite: I guess we all have our demons. Consider yourself repaid.

Malone: Fair enough for now.
Roxton: What the hell are you doing back there, stopping for tea?
Marguerite: Roxton, that stuff about your brother... that was out of line, even for me.
Roxton: Forget it - there’s other things to worry about.

How be your caps so shiny? They're all sharp and clear and the colors are so vivid!

Heh, I love that high-pitched giggle of Marguerite's as they walk in, she's fully engaged in Mission: Antagonize Ned right from the start. I don't think we've seen this side of her since and I MISS IT SO. The rest of the time, she's light-hearted when teasing them, it's not malicious and hard edged like here. I adore her tone and her entire demeanor, it just thrills me so much.

Isn't it typical of Roxton to play along? It's great that he's like, 'So, hit me with the book review' instead of getting upset about her overstepping boundaries.

There's such a contrast between this ep and The Prisoner. Here, when Malone refuses to heed her, she rips out his journal pages- like, MAJOR INFRACTION, right? That's going a bit far [although from the woman that sold Veronica, weeeellll, we should maybe adjust our scale a little?] and I'm definitely getting why he's so pissed off, I'd be spitting mad if someone did that to me. But in Prisoner, instead of TELLING him what to do, she tries to wheedle him into doing as she says- and when he refuses, she just smiles. No tantrums, no attempts to make him pay. [And am I imagining this or does he sneak a peek down her top?!]

Side note: just rewatched Unnatural Selection yesterday and I wondered- you know when she taunted him about Gladys and just as Summerlee took the shot, Malone darted out of the frame and ran after Marguerite? He clearly wasn't angry enough to try and bash her like he was here, but what do you think happened? Usually I get frustrated when M/R scenes are cut before I'm ready for them to end, here I just really want to see what happened, damn it! I have visions of him picking her up and dumping her in a stream or pelting her with fruit or something else cute and brother-ly, y'know? :D

That laundry scene...*sighs* So much love. This is what I miss about the early days, the no-holds-barred kinda arguments that we see here and in Paradise Found [grr, I keep forgetting whether it's Lost/Found!] where they get mad and just let loose at each other for no good reason, except to deal with that UST they haven't figured out what to do with just yet.

I do love the intimacy and familiarity that develops between them, but when they begin to realize how much they care for each other, it means we don't get this delicious explosion of anger and resentment over relatively minor things when they're both furious and trying to score meaningless points against one another- they're pretty much a solid team and the few arguments they do have are the silly little spats that don't amount to much or the major significant relationship-focused ones, during which you'd never catch Marguerite being petty enough to throw his brother's death in his face again [she spends the rest of the series absolving him of that guilt].

This kind of irrational argument could only occur this early in the show when they don't know each other well enough to realize they're meant to be and so Roxton will be arrogant and dictatorial and she'll be cruel and cutting. Because later on in the show, their bond is so strong you know that no matter what happens, they'll come together somehow and fix whatever's wrong, they have that foundation of affection and caring for each other to keep them together, but right now, without that history, it really could be a turning point, he might be too high-handed and cause her to resent him or she might just go too far and alienate him for good. The way they're dancing on that edge is what makes me all gleeful and breathless with excitement.

And it means so much more when she apologizes and feels remorse now because it shows that change in their relationship, that she cares what he thinks about her. She knows by now that she's considered a part of the group for better or worse, she doesn't have to make up to him, I mean, she could just be flirtatious and use her feminine wiles to win him over, but it's significant that she admits she was wrong and says sorry straight out. ♥

*glomps* I was futzing around with coloring and sharpness and stuff when I made this, because I like my picspams to be colorful and stuff, hehe. Thanks :)

I know I really love this scene, just because of how gleefully she goes about winding Ned up. It's so easy for her to do, and she proceeds to press all sorts of buttons. It's kinda funny because Ned acts all mild mannered most of the time and here he was about ready to lose it.

Isn't it typical of Roxton to play along? It's great that he's like, 'So, hit me with the book review' instead of getting upset about her overstepping boundaries.

*giggles* When I first saw this, I was expecting him to be all 'moral high ground, blah blah blah' and 'you shouldn't take his journals' and that, and here he was ready for a book review, I loved it.

I'm so gonna have to check The Prisoner and find out now...

You know, I really wish I knew too. They have all these little things you catch kind of out of the corner of your eye and would spawn all sorts of fanfic [if I could be sure I wouldn't do irreparable damage to the characters, anyway. :P ]

And you're right about the early days, because they danced around each other so much, and sometimes it was vicious and no-holds-barred, and they came so close to breaking what was starting to grow between them. And even then they keep pulling back before they could say something that really would ruin them. Call me an adrenalin junkie or whatever, but I love this about them, at least in the early part of the series. I know it wouldn't work nearly as well later on once they get closer, but that's why each season is awesome, because you get to see different stages of interaction and awareness of each other, and that is shiny. *nods*

This was one of those major moments for me- I loved them from the first episode, but this was one of the ones where for me, things started to click into place more. Roxton is willing to stick up for her to Ned, and freely states that 'she pushes everybody', but he's also starting to believe in her, at least a little bit. You don't even want to know how much I was flailing about the certainty in his voice when he said "she won't" and the rolling the dice bit either. ♥
And even though this was early on, Marguerite's starting to change. I don't know if it's just me, but I really can't see the Marguerite of the first episode being willing to apologize so freely, or if she did, meaning it as much as she did here.

You know what I love about us? I make this essay-length reply, and usually I'd apologize for it with most people, but I feel comfortable enough to inflict my wordiness upon you. :P And then you reciprocate with another long reply and I just sit here and bubble over with teh happy. *g*

I was futzing around with coloring and sharpness and stuff when I made this, because I like my picspams to be colorful and stuff, hehe. Thanks :)

The effort shows, it looks really good!
I'm cursed- I don't want to risk capping because my dvd drive is half-broken and I'm willing to endanger blank cds for burning music but no way am I subjecting my precious TLW dvds to that Jekyll-and-Hyde drive. *shudders* So I use movie maker to cap and the quality is so crappy but *sighs* it's better than nothing. One can't picspam without PICTURES, after all.

how gleefully she goes about winding Ned up. It's so easy for her to do, and she proceeds to press all sorts of buttons. It's kinda funny because Ned acts all mild mannered most of the time and here he was about ready to lose it.

'Well, my, my, my. Who would have thought the angelic Mr. Malone
had demons to hide?' *sporfles* That imp. :D If anyone could cause him to lose control, it would be her.

I wonder what prompted this bout of trouble-making, though? Maybe he was nagging her about how she could read those inscriptions? He was clearly curious when they left the cave, and she was brooding about them throughout the whole ep. If he had been bugging her about it, makes sense she'd lash back with some personal form of revenge. I do admire her style. :P

Or maybe she realized that her ability to read them raised questions and so she combed his journal to make sure he didn't reveal any of her secrets? IDK.

*giggles* When I first saw this, I was expecting him to be all 'moral high ground, blah blah blah' and 'you shouldn't take his journals' and that, and here he was ready for a book review, I loved it.

True that! It is a little weird that Roxton doesn't get all high-and-mighty on her about what she did. Even later when he was telling her off, it was less 'what you did was wrong' and more 'don't give Malone such a hard time', like he didn't think it was such a big deal. Is he besotted or what?!

Poor Malone, though! Roxton went against the whole code of the brotherhood about sticking together when facing down women, lol. ['bros before hos'?] :P

Actually, that scene supports the brother/sister dynamics. Most other guys on the show would've been swayed by her seductive manner, but Ned, other than possibly ogling her for a second- and seriously, who WOULDN'T in that position?!- is able to keep from being befuddled and confused and manipulated like her usual conquests.

That ep isn't one of my favorites but I do love that red outfit of Marguerite's [why are they always red? Lol]- looks like it has an Indian influence on it, almost like the choli style of dress.

would spawn all sorts of fanfic [if I could be sure I wouldn't do irreparable damage to the characters, anyway. :P ]

'Irreparable damage', my ass. *eyeroll*
ONE OF THESE DAYS, BB. You will give in to the fic-writing, eventually. And it shall be glorious.

they came so close to breaking what was starting to grow between them. Call me an adrenalin junkie or whatever, but I love this about them, at least in the early part of the series.

YES, that's a perfect way of describing it! It's the adrenalin rush that hits me when they veer on the edge of disaster with each other and one wrong move could end up destroying this precious, delicate bond. *wriggles* Love it.

You know what I noticed? Roxton grabs her a lot. Like, even in the first ep, he'd grab her arm and pull her back to face him. It interests me, I'm not sure why. The fact that she doesn't knee him in a tender spot for taking that liberty? Though I wonder if that little act puts her on the defensive, make her more likely to lash out at an emotional sore spot. It was after he pulled her back here that she made that 'brother' comment.

Roxton is willing to stick up for her to Ned, and freely states that 'she pushes everybody', but he's also starting to believe in her

See, it's interesting that he never seems to worry about how he looks to the others. He'll stick up for Marguerite, in Salvation, in Pirate's Curse, in Travelers, among others, and they always doubt her, always wonder what he sees in her to make it worth his while but he doesn't get defensive. I mean, this is what I love about Roxton. He doesn't have to be the 'macho' guy that looks like he's in charge of his woman, he doesn't get emasculated by her. Call him 'whipped' and it probably wouldn't faze him at all, he'd just make that comment about 'a woman of fire and steel' being worth the effort.

You don't even want to know how much I was flailing about the certainty in his voice when he said "she won't" and the rolling the dice bit either. ♥

Suffice to say that there was uber flailage at this scene. ^_^ Roxton's the only one that bothers to try and understand Marguerite when the others are content to dismiss her and pigeon-hole her without taking the time to understand the light-and-shade of her personality.

That 'rolling the dice' thing...it always reminds me of Adama's 'rolling the hard six'. Wtf did that MEAN, anyway?! *confuzzled*

I don't know if it's just me, but I really can't see the Marguerite of the first episode being willing to apologize so freely, or if she did, meaning it as much as she did here.

So with you on that. I thought it was impressive enough that she managed to THANK him at that stage, even if it was a little off-hand and kinda belligerent and ended with her calling him names, lol, but that's nothing compared to her very real remorse at causing him pain and that heartfelt apology in this ep. *wriggles*

On a non-shipper note: I do love how Ned drops everything the moment he hears her scream. Regardless of their personal conflicts, he was out there as soon as he thought she was in trouble.

And I really really REALLY loathe the writers for making her useless. Dropping her gun, being all pathetic...*roars* Not cool.
